Yale School officials thank city officials for great partnership




YALE — The Yale Board of Education had a short regular meeting when it met at Yale Elementary School on Nov. 7.

Among the board business:

• Yale Elementary fifth-grade students led the Pledge of Allegiance which was followed by a moment of silence.

• Several hiring were approved including: Allison Cowhy, special education aide at Avoca Elementary; Jennifer Senkmajer, fourth-grade teacher at Yale Elementary; and Jennifer Perkins, special education aide at Yale Junior High.

• An unpaid medical leave request for Betty Keeley, junior high custodian, was approved.

• The personnel report was accepted as presented.

• Fifth-grade teacher Kaitlyn Tuckey gave an overview of the newly implemented Student Led Conferences. Students in the third, fourth and fifth grades provided each board member with an individualized demonstration. Ms. Tuckey, Ms. Naveen and Ms. Hossack added that having students present to their parents improves the student’s confidence, has them take ownership of learning and is great practice for public speaking.

• Yale High School Parent Donna Utter addressed the board regarding a concern about dual enrollment.

• President Pete Bullard announced the Governance Committee would meet in December and discussion would be on the new NEOLA template policies.

• Superintendent Ken Nicholl thanked Mayor Scott Gill and Yale City Council member Karen Schneck for their attendance and the great partnership Yale Public Schools shares with the City of Yale. Nicholl also gave praises to Principal Bill Kryscynski, students and staff for the rewarding presentation about Student Led Conferences.
