Teens busted

Arrested for vehicle break-ins

PORT HURON — Three teens were arrested Dec. 5 and arraigned on charges related to a break-in spree that involved vehicles in three counties.

Michigan State Police Trooper Christopher Tuckey of the Richmond post said the suspects were picked up after being caught in the act at a residence in Mussey Township.

“A homeowner in Mussey Township saw two boys going through his truck and followed them to a residence in Almont,” he said.

Tuckey said Colleen Baker, 17, of Almont Township, Mark Spencer, 19, of Almont, and Benjamin Szpaichler, 17, of Mussey Township were each charged with one count of felony larceny from a vehicle and one misdemeanor charge for larceny from a vehicle in St. Clair County District Court.

Baker and Szpaichler were released from jail on personal recognizance bonds, while Spencer remained behind bars for an outstanding warrant from Lapeer County.

Tuckey said the three are believed to be responsible for many thefts that occurred from vehicles in Sanilac, St. Clair and Lapeer counties over the past few weeks.

“I interviewed them on (that) Sunday, and all three admitted to stealing from 25 to 40 vehicles,” he said. “They were only going through cars that were not locked and basically stealing everything that wasn’t nailed down.”

Tuckey said the police post has accumulated an array of items which still need to be claimed by their rightful owners.

He hopes people will come forward to claim the stolen merchandise, which includes cell phones, loose change, compact discs, nail gun, walking cane, sunglasses, bowling ball with bag and shoes and even a chocolate fountain.

Those needing more information about the items should contact Tuckey at the Richmond post at 586- 727-0200.
