One hurt when Jeep hits lawnmower




SANILAC TWP. — A 68-year-old Port Sanilac man was injured when the lawnmower he was riding was struck by a Jeep.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the accident scene, South Lakeshore near Washington Road, Dec. 22 at approximately 2:20 p.m.

According to Deputy Luke Zeller, a 2004 Jeep driven by a 23-year-old Port Huron man was southbound on South Lakeshore (M-25) when the vehicle in front of him suddenly slowed down.

The Port Huron man told deputies he locked his brakes and swerved to the right to avoid a collision.

As he swerved, he saw a lawnmower with a snow blower in his path in a driveway.

The Jeep struck the lawnmower, ejecting the Port Sanilac man from the mower.

Port Sanilac Fire and Rescue provided medical care to the 68-year-old until emergency medical personnel arrived. The man was transported to McKenzie Health System by Sanilac EMS.

The first vehicle that had slowed to avoid the lawnmower had left the scene. Witnesses told deputies the vehicle was a smaller SUV, possibly gold in color. Deputies are asking the person driving the vehicle to contact the sheriff’s office at 810- 648-2000 and speak to Deputy Zeller.

The names of the people involved in the accident were withheld pending further investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
