BROWN CITY — The Brown City Rotary Club has teamed up with Chris Cakes of Michigan to offer a night of food, fun, and entertainment to raise money for United Hospice Service.

Rotary President Jay Berry told The Brown City Banner that this will be the 28th time the club has conducted the fundraiser, but this is the first year that the pancakes and sausages will be prepared by the world-renowned catering company, Chris Cakes of Clare.

Chris Cakes holds the Guiness Book of World Records title for Most Pancakes Made in an Hour, and also the Highest Tossed and Caught pancake ever flipped.

Company sources state that at least one chef/performer will be on hand to demonstrate his or her special culinary skills. Using the company’s patented portable grill and batter dispenser, a single Chris cakes “Flipper” can serve between 250 and 300 people in one hour.

Founded in 1969 the company, which has appeared frequently on the Food Network, has served and performed for four U.S. presidents and 16 governors at events around the country.

Berry said the pancake and sausage meal will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27in the Brown City Junior/ Senior High School cafeteria.

The cost is $8 per person — all you can eat. Children age five and under eat free.

The timing of the supper and this year’s new venue were no accident. Berry said the event was timed to take place just before the arch-rival Marlette Red Raiders square off against Brown City’s Green Devils in a friendly local varsity basketball showdown in the high school gym.

“Folks can come and eat supper before the game. It should be a great time. Any donations would be greatly appreciated even if the donor doesn’t want to partake of the pancakes,” he said.

Tickets to the ball game will be sold separately.

Tip-off is scheduled for about 7:30 p.m. (immediately following the JV game)

“This is probably our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Berry. “Every available Rotary member will be participating. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to United Hospice Service of Marlette Hospital for use in providing care for terminally ill patients and their families.”

Tickets for the supper are available at the door or in advance at Tri-County Bank’s Brown City and Marlette branches, as well as from the United Hospice Service office in Marlette.
