Career Center students shine in health competition




PECK — Eight students from the Sanilac Career Center Health Occupation program came away with medals from a regional competition at Saginaw Valley State University last month.

The contest, called the Health Occupations Students of America Competition, awarded the following Sanilac students with either a gold, silver or bronze medal: In Clinical Nursing, Brenden McLarty of Croswell-Lexington, first place. For Extemporaneous Poster, Hunter Paterson of Deckerville, first place. On a Knowledge Test for Human Growth and Development, Kearsten Kezal of Cros- Lex, second place.

For Nursing Assistant, Kennedy Lefler of Marlette, second place. For Clinical Nursing, Emily Bell of Marlette, second place. For Physical Therapy, Taylor Sempf of Peck, third place. For Clinical Nursing, Kaylee Young of Marlette, third place. For Personal Care Skills, Payton Nagle of Brown City, third place.

Thirty-six students from the Career Center participated in the event, with 23 of them placing in the top 10 in Region 7.

The eight medalists are invited to compete at the HOSA State Competition to be held at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids on March 21-23.

A very proud ISD Superintendent Duane Lange said of the contestants, “We are very pleased with our students’ performance. They did an outstanding job of representing the Sanilac Career Center Health Occupation Program.”
