Pirates split doubleheaders

Photo by Sandy Engler PECK — The Peck baseball team went 2-2 on the week, including a split in North Central Thumb League Stripes Division play on Thursday. The Pirates won the opener, 8-4, but lost in game two, 12-8.

In the first game, Peck scored four times in the opening inning and added four more runs in the fourth.

The Pirates had a single and double from Aaron Booth and three different players with a pair of singles each – Cody Babcock, Nathan Collins (1 RBI) and Derek Thom (1 RBI). Nolan Sarnac had a single and two RBI.

Sarnac was the starting and winning pitcher.

In game two, All Saints battled back from a sevenrun deficit to gain the split. Pirate errors helped lead All Saints to a six-run second inning.

Five different players combined for 13 hits for Peck. Babcock (RBI) led the way with three singles and a double. Tatton Sarnac had three hits, including a double, Booth had a pair of doubles, Nolan Sarnac had two singles and four RBIs, and Ryan Robinson collected two singles and an RBI.

In a North Central Thumb League crossover twin bill on Monday, May 7, the Pirates earned a split by romping to a win in the second contest after scoring eight runs in the first inning.

Booth led the attack with three hits and three runs scored. Sarnac had two singles and an RBI, and Thom added two singles.

In the opener, the Cardinals rallied for six runs in the seventh inning.

Hits for the Pirates came from Tatton Sarnac, Babcock, (2b), Nolan Sarnac (2 RBI) and Thom with two hits each. — D.B.

North Branch baseball falls to Birch Run

The Broncos were edged out 2-1 and 4-2 by Birch Run on Wednesday.

Birch Run took the early win on a walk-off in the 10th inning. Both teams scored one in the fifth. Kaden Maynard tossed 4.2 innings and struck out four while allowing one run and six walks. Scott Helton threw 5 innings and struck out two while giving up five hits and a run.

Chandler Russel had two hits and an RBI. Nate Farnsworth, Brady Good and Wylie Swoish had one hit each.

In the nightcap, both teams scored one. Birch Run then added one in the third and two in the fourth. North Branch’s final run came in the fifth.

Braden Kronz struck out two and allowed four hits, four runs and one walk over five innings. Gerrid Rutledge was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Colton Maher was 2-for-2 with a run. Farnsworth also added a hit.

The Broncos took down Brown City 12-1 and 8-6 Monday.

North Branch led 4-0 in the first and added two runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth, while Brown City’s lone run came in the fourth. Helton tossed 3.2 innings and struck out four allowing two hits, one run and a walk. Rutledge struck out two and gave up one walk over 1.1 innings.

Russell was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Good was 2-of-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs. Maher added a hit and a pair of RBI. Rutledge had one hit, one RBI, one run and a walk. Farnsworth had an RBI and two runs. Swoish had a hit and a run.

North Branch scored one in the first, one in the second and one in the third and added two in the fifth and three in the seventh to take the late win. Brown City scored one in the second and five in the fourth. Kaden Maynard hurled 1.2 innings, striking out four and walking two allowing one hit and one run. Farnsworth took the mound for two innings, striking out one and allowing four hits and five runs. Kronz threw 3.1 innings and struck out four allowing one hit.

Farnsworth led offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Kronz was 1-of-2 with three runs. Rutledge, Russell and Helton had one hit and two RBI each. Swoish had one run and one RBI.

The Broncos swept Imlay City 16-0 and 6-0 Friday.

North Branch ended the first game after three innings, scoring 12 in the third alone. Good threw the no-hitter, striking out two, walking three.

Kronz was 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and two runs. Helton drove in two runs and crossed home twice and had a pair of hits. Russell had one RBI, two runs and two hits. Good was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Jacob Edson tossed two innings for Imlay City, striking out one and surrendering seven hits, 12 runs and three walks. Andrew Nadrowski allowed one hit and four runs. Noah Galbraith gave up two hits and struck out one.

In the nightcap, North Branch scored two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Kronz tossed all six innings and struck out four allowing four hits. Good, Maher, Russell, Rutledge, Helton and Roach all had one hit each. Rutledge added two RBI.

North Branch, 10-10, hosted Goodrich on Friday and is at Frankenmuth today. — K.R.
