Cody Gueldenzoph Cody Gueldenzoph GREENLEAF TWP. — The Michigan State Police trooper involved in an alcohol-related crash on Thanksgiving Day will receive probation after pleading no contest to a lesser charge.

Cody Gueldenzopf, 25, pleaded no contest to driving while impaired, which had been amended from operating while intoxicated by the prosecutor.

The Sandusky High School graduate was sentenced Feb. 20 in Sanilac County District Court to serve six months probation, pay fine and court costs, attend an outpatient treatment program, complete a state substance abuse program, and submit to alcohol and drug testing.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Dept., the trooper was off duty at the time of the crash that occurred just before 8 a.m. Nov. 23 in Greenleaf Township. Police said a hunter reported seeing a 2010 Cadillac drive off the roadway, through a field and hit a tree near the intersection of Cass City and Germania roads.

The Michigan State Police will be conducting its own internal investigation regarding conduct befitting of a trooper. Gueldenzopf, who was assigned to the Flint post prior to the crash, will be permitted to return to work during the inquiry since he was only charged with a misdemeanor offense.
