Wayne C. “Sandy” VanDamme, age 77, of Brown City, passed away peacefully at home February 13, 2018 under hospice care with his family by his side. He was born September 2, 1940 in Brown City, to Charles and Viola VanDamme. Wayne graduated from Brown City High School Class of 1958. He was united in marriage to Carol Hillman. Together they raised two sons, Dave and Bill and worked side by side for 54 years.

Wayne, or rather Sandy (a nickname from his grandfather Stephens) was a lifelong farmer. He was 30 years a dairy farmer and 30 years a cash crop farmer. He enjoyed clearing fence rows, ditching out fields and cleaning machinery so he could paint them……John Deere green. He loved his sons and taught them everything he knew about farming and so he enjoyed his grandchildren by taking them for rides on the tractor. He was so proud when grandson Derek wanted to follow in his footsteps and stay on the farm. His granddaughter Courtney always had a piece of his heart. He enjoyed vacations to Arizona visiting old west towns and John Wayne movies were his favorite. He enjoyed being with his friends and meeting them everyday at the coffee shop. He attended Brown City United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol; sons, David (Kimberly) VanDamme and Bill VanDamme and friend, Lindsey Shick; grandchildren, Derek (Sydney) VanDamme and Courtney VanDamme and friend, Keyes; and great-granddaughters, Bella, Naomi and Jayla VanDamme and a brother, Ward (Jeannie) VanDamme.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Viola VanDamme and a brother, Dale VanDamme.
