EMMETT TWP. — A semi-truck driver rolled his rig on I-69 after falling asleep and striking an abandoned vehicle on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Dept. reported the incident occurred just west of the M-19 exit to Yale around 2:20 p.m.

Deputies stated the driver was heading eastbound when he fell asleep while driving. His semi sideswiped an abandoned SUV on the side of the road and rolled onto its side in the south ditch.

The truck was transporting automotive parts, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials with hazardous material training were called to the scene due to leaking oil.

The driver was not injured in the crash but was ticketed for the mishap, the office said.
