Busker Festival to host more than 60 performances

IMLAY CITY — Details of the upcoming Michigan Busker Festival — the Imlay City Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming summer festival that will be replacing the Blueberry Festival of years past — were recently unveiled during the Imlay City Chamber of Commerce Dinner and Dance Gala.

Delivered by Chamber event coordinator Shannon Hamel, the details of the upcoming June event included mention of all that is new to the street performer festival, as well as which local-favorite events will be held over from the Blueberry Festival.

The Michigan Busker Festival is scheduled for June 15 from 4 p.m. – 1 a.m. and June 16 from 10 a.m. – 1 a.m. Four separate stages will be home to more than 60 scheduled busker performances, and the Chamber’s Festival Planning Committee is creating busker workshops for all ages where buskers will teach their craft.

The Michigan Busker Festival, which aims to be the only street-performance themed event in Michigan, will feature the expected children’s entertainment, vendors and parade. A significant change in planning will be the matter of Third Street, which in years past was closed to traffic to house the vendor area. While the vendors will return, the Chamber will not be requesting to close Third Street, except during the parade. The only road closure during the festival will be Main Street from Third Street to Depot Drive.
