Leann Kerr named principal at Peck Elementary

Staff Writer

PECK — Peck Elementary School has a new principal to call its own.

Leann Kerr was named elementary principal as well as the district’s curriculum and Title director by the Peck Board of Education during a special meeting on Dec. 21. Board member Tim Lentner was absent from the meeting.

Peck Superintendent Frank Johnson said the school district received 23 applications for the position. The board met with seven initial candidates before interviewing three finalists.

Johnson said Kerr was working as an English teacher and department head at North Branch Area Schools.

“I think she’ll be a big asset to the district,” Johnson said. “She’ll be in the elementary and do curriculum and Title work. She has a strong curriculum background.”

The Peck High School graduate is married to Bill Kerr, who was serving as Peck’s K-12 principal for two years but will now oversee Peck’s secondary education.

Johnson said the opening for an elementary principal became available with the retirement of a teacher last fall. He said with Paula Davidson serving as dean of students, counselor and athletic director, the position was needed in the elementary.

“In smaller districts, you wear a lot of hats,” he added.
