Do you want to run the county? Apply for county administrator

SANDUSKY — Can you oversee the daily operations of county government, manage a $33 million budget, and handle a workforce of 170 employees?

Then this may be the job for you.

Sanilac County is advertising for a new county administrator/ controller to replace Kathy Dorman, who’s retiring from the position Dec. 31.

The position, which carries a salary range of $75,000 to $95,000, depending on education and experience, also calls research and development activities; supervision of staff that provide administrative support to the board of commissioners and departments; and liaison work between departments, agencies and the board of commissioners.

The job requirements include a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field, and five years of experience in personnel administration and labor relations.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 20. The personnel committee will meet Oct. 24 for the initial screening of applications, with the intent of narrowing the list to 10 to 15. The county board will then meet in special session Oct. 31 to consider the list.

No date has been set for hiring the new administrator. Dorman has indicated she would stay on the job into the new year if needed.
