The Lady Pirates grabbed the North Central Thumb League Stripes Division title on Monday, June 12, by sweeping two games from Dryden, 10-0 and 11-8. Peck finished with a 9-5 record in the division and closed its season with a 17-10 overall mark.

Senior pitcher Abbey Shell was on top of her game in the opener and fired a no-hitter against the Cardinals.

“Abbey ... also broke a 32-year old school record, set in 1985, for the most strikeouts (for a season),’ noted Shelley Bullis, Asst. Coach. “The record was 97, but by the time the two games were over, she managed to get 105 strikeouts and now holds the record.”

In the five-inning opener (10-run mercy rule), Shell struck out five and walked nine.

Kaylee Ureel and Cherokee Johnson led the batting attack.

In game two, Shell pitched all seven innings, scattering nine hits and fanning three.

Leading a nine-hit attack in that contest was Shell and Morgan Winiarski with two singles and two RBI each. – D.B.
